Frequently Asked Questions – LifeVac

Got a question about LifeVac? You’re in the right place.

From how it works to who can use it, this page covers everything you need to feel confident and informed.

How does LifeVac work?

LifeVac uses a patented one-way valve system to create suction and remove an object blocking the airway.
It’s as simple as Place, Push, Pull:

Place the mask over the nose and mouth

Push the plunger down

Pull back to clear the airway

The suction is strong enough to dislodge food or objects, but gentle enough to be used safely.

Is LifeVac safe for children?

Yes. LifeVac is safe for children over 22lbs (around 10kg).

Every kit includes both an adult mask and a pediatric mask designed for younger users.

For very small children (under 1 year), always seek medical advice – but LifeVac has been successfully used on babies in real emergencies.

Can LifeVac be used on the elderly?

Absolutely. LifeVac has saved many older adults – including those with dementia, reduced mobility, or conditions that make standard choking procedures difficult or impossible.

It’s non-invasive and doesn’t require the person to be standing, which makes it ideal for seated or bed-bound individuals.

Can it be used on someone who is unconscious or disabled?

Yes. One of LifeVac’s strengths is that it doesn’t rely on cooperation or physical ability.

It can be used on people:

In a wheelchair

Bed-bound or lying down

Having a seizure

Who are unable to receive back blows or abdominal thrusts

Who should have a LifeVac?

Anyone who wants to be prepared.

LifeVac is especially recommended for:

Parents of young children

Carers and family members supporting someone elderly or disabled

Schools, nurseries, and childminders

Care homes and supported living settings

Restaurants, workplaces, and gyms

Anyone with a history of choking or swallowing difficulties

Is LifeVac reusable?

The device itself is reusable, but the masks are single-use in a real choking emergency.
If you ever need to use your LifeVac in a genuine emergency, we’ll send you a free replacement kit – just contact us after the incident.

Practice masks can be reused for training purposes.

What’s included in each kit?

Every LifeVac kit includes:

The LifeVac device

1 adult mask
1 child mask
1 practice mask
Full instructions
A storage case or mount (depending on kit type)

Is LifeVac medically approved?

LifeVac has been independently tested and clinically validated.
It’s registered as a Class I Medical Device in the UK and is used in NHS hospitals, care homes, and schools.

The device is CE marked and complies with all applicable health and safety requirements.

Do I need medical training to use it?

No – LifeVac is specifically designed for use without medical training.
It comes with clear instructions and a practice mask so you can familiarise yourself before you ever need to use it.

In an emergency, you’ll be able to act fast – even if you’ve never used it before.

Is it safe to use on someone who is choking but still conscious?

Yes – and the earlier you act, the better.
If someone is showing signs of distress, turning blue, or can’t cough or speak, it’s time to intervene.

You should always try traditional methods first (back blows and abdominal thrusts), but if those fail or aren’t possible, LifeVac can be used immediately.

How long does delivery take?

We offer fast, tracked UK delivery.
Orders are usually dispatched within 24 hours and delivered in 1–3 working days.

You’ll receive a tracking link as soon as your kit is on its way.

Is there a discount if I need more than one kit?
